Sep 02,  · The album that established the Steely Dan sound and launched them into stardom with the hit “Rikki Don’t Lose That Number”. Pretzel Logic provides those rich, complex, jazz-rock pieces that SD is known for, but also provides quite a variety of tracks%(1).

Steely Dan's third album, Pretzel Logic is a transporting work of dazzling accomplishment, which is another way of saying it's really fun to listen to. From the opening notes of "Rikki Don't Lose That Number" to the closing blues funk of "Monkey In Your Soul", this is a brilliant band's best album, more fully realized than anything they'd done up to this point, and not quite as over-produced.

For many, "Pretzel Logic" is Steely Dan's best album. Funnily enough, of their "big seven" albums between and , it is my least favourite. The songs are shorter but not necessarily poppier, in some ways I just find them a little less outstandingly brilliant than on some of the others/5().

Charlie Freak had but one thing to call his own Three weight ounce pure golden ring no precious stone Five nights without a bite No place to lay his head And if nobody takes him in He'll soon be dead On the street he spied my face I heard him hail In our plot of frozen space he told his tale Poor man, he showed his hand So righteous was his need.
